How much does it cost to tune a piano in the UK?

A standard piano tune typically costs between £50 and £80 for a domestic visit, depending on your region and the tuner. A pitch raise plus fine tune, needed when the piano has dropped well below concert pitch, runs from around £80 to £130 or more. Prices in London and the South East tend to run higher. See our guide on how much piano tuning costs in the UK.

How often should I have my piano tuned?

At least once a year for a piano in regular use, and twice a year suits most homes where the heating varies through the seasons. Temperature and humidity changes move the pitch of a piano, so regular tuning keeps it closer to pitch and makes each visit quicker. A piano that has been moved always needs tuning after it has settled in its new home.

What qualifications should I look for in a piano tuner?

Look for membership of the Pianoforte Tuners' Association (PTA) or a qualification through the Institute of Musical Instrument Technology (IMIT). Both signal genuine training. All tuners listed here are drawn from those trade registers and the tuners' own verified websites. See our guide on how to find a good piano tuner near you.
